Description
Zhao Gongming · 赵公明
The Zhao Cai talisman represents a devotional connection with Zhao Gongming, affectionately called Lord Zhao (赵爷). In Taoist belief, carrying his talisman is a way to seek his protection and blessing for one’s livelihood.
Zhao Gongming is revered as a martial God of Wealth. He is often depicted with a dark face, a powerful bearing and a black tiger, expressing both his protective role and his association with wealth.
What makes a talisman more than an image?
In the tradition followed by Sinotaoism, a talisman’s blessing is understood to depend on both the maker’s spiritual cultivation and the ritual through which it is prepared. The written design alone is not the whole practice.
Ru Hui (入讳) is an essential part of that preparation: through this ritual, the talisman is prepared to carry the blessing of the tradition. Each Sinotaoism paper talisman is made to order with Ru Hui included.
